11AM LECTURE - ‘Wagner’s Das Rheingold and Die Walküre, and the search for the German string sound’ by Jakub Omsky, Cellist.
Examining Wagner’s string / cello sounds, and his searching for a national identity through incorporating Bach and Lutheran chorale, cantatas, new phrasing and brass tones. Examples performed will include excerpts of Bach’s Suites for Cello, Weber and other Romantic composers.
