Charles Martin is thrilled to debut as Wotan in Die Walküre with Tundi Productions. Wotan is the role of singular interest driving Charles' commitment to opera, and the plane of artistic discovery and opportunity Tundi presents is unparalleled.

Charles is a Heldenbariton whose experience encompasses both Bass and Bass-baritone repertoire. He has performed regionally in the following operatic roles: King Marke in Wagner's Tristan und Isolde and Fasolt in Wagner's Das Rheingold with Tundi Productions, Hunding in Wagner's Die Walküre with Festival Theater Hudson, Achilla in Handel's Giulio Cesare with Upstate Chamber Opera, Sparafucile in Verdi's Rigoletto with Capital Concert Opera, Sarastro in Mozart's The Magic Flute and Escamillo in Bizet's Carmen both with Hubbard Hall Opera Theatre. Of his Sarastro critic Gail Burns of Berkshire on Stage reviewed, "He reeks of strength and righteousness in all the best ways...". Mr. Martin has performed locally as the bass soloist in Handel's Messiah with Columbia Festival Orchestra and in Haydn's "Lord Nelson" Mass with Maverick Concerts and with Concerts in the Village of which John Paul Keeler of the Register-Star said, "Bass Charles Martin had fine resonance not unlike Kim Borg in Elgar’s ‘Gerontius’.”

Charles Martin's operatic training began in a private voice camerata in Hoffman Estates, IL under the tutelage of voice guru Carl Lawrenz. Mr. Martin is a proud founding member of The 3 Baritones, a Chicago based vocal trio whose performances involve works of opera, oratorio, art song, musical theater, and American song.

Artist’s thoughts: What’s it like to work with TUNDI?

Imagine being told you are invited to create together. All you need to do is say yes.

Do you believe that? How long would it take to become a believer? What kind or quantity of questions, what kind or quantity of answers, what kind or quantity of victories, what kind or quantity of missteps, what kind or quantity of being brought back into the fold when you feel unworthy? There is a multifarious moment when you do believe that you are creating together with both your strengths and your weaknesses embraced. It is hard to know which came first, but at this moment your potential is freed and your performance and the rate of your ascendancy magnified. It is hard to put this into words. Tundi is both safe space and brave space intermingled like an operatic yin yang. You stand with one foot in safety and one foot in bravery. You are empowered to become the performer you may or may not currently believe you are.

The outcome is your best performance adhering to the essence of the character and music but fully your own.
