Sarah Briggs

Festival Orchestra ‘22, ‘23, ‘24, ‘25

Violinist Sarah Briggs performs regularly with the Springfield, Berkshire and Vermont symphonies, at local colleges, and with the Wistaria String Quartet. She enjoys playing a variety of genres in addition to classical, and has upcoming chamber concerts at Bombyx in Northampton with saxophonist Felipe Salles, a CD and tour with jazz bassist Avery Sharpe, and recently played at the Mosesiam Cnt for the Arts with singer-songwriter Steven Santoro. She was a section violinist of the Charlotte, Colorado, and Utah symphonies, toured Japan with Chicago Sinfonietta, and subbed with the Chicago Symphony. After stints in Alaska and Germany, Sarah settled in Northampton in 2006, and has been a violin instructor at Amherst College since 2007. She has performance degrees from the Eastman School of Music and UT at Austin (MM) and was a fellow at the Tanglewood Institute.

This will be Sarah’s fourth summer playing with TUNDI. She has loved opera since she was a child watching her father sing at Opera under the Stars in Rochester, NY where she performed in “Help, Help, the Globolinks,” a lesser known work by Menotti. She also sang in a world premiere of “The Wrestler” by Samuel Adler. She has played in the pit with Opera Carolina, the Utah and Colorado Opera companies, and sat principal second of Central City Opera for seven summer seasons. She is grateful to Hugh and Jenna for this unique opportunity to play a local, brilliantly orchestrated chamber arrangement of this incredible music!
