Harriet Dearden Welther began her violin studies in New Jersey.
She earned Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in music from The University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she was coached by members of the Pro Arte Quartet. While a student, she was involved with many Opera performances. She performed with the Madison Symphony during this time as well as the newly-formed Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra under its first Director, David Crosby.
After a move to Tucson, AZ, she performed for seven years with the Tucson Symphony as one of its first “Core” members, performed with The Arizona Opera Company, soloed with the Community Orchestra, and also with a group called Orchestai.
After moving to Vermont she performed with The St Cecilia Chamber Orchestra of Niskayuna, NY.
She currently plays with the Albany Symphony, Director David Allen Miller, with whom two Grammys were awarded for Contemporary Concerti. She also performs locally in southern Vermont
