Dr. Sophia Howlett returns to Wagner in Vermont, to give another insightful lecture on the subject of intimacy in Wagner’s operas.
Love Between Us’: forms of intimacy in Wagner’s The Ring Cycle
The bonds that bind us from birth, the bonds we create, the bonds we seek to break. Our love for home, family, our community, and for our chosen partner. Without intimacy, we are not connected. We are alone. Connected, we are tied to each other and to our place, but susceptible to the fear of loss. I will explore different varieties of intimacy in ‘The Ring’ – as the ‘Love Between Us’ – and portray the beauty, duty and pain of intimacy as the invisible set of bonds that can tie us to each other and break us in the unravelling.
This event is free entry.
