BRYAN McCLARY is recognized for his warm and rich baritone voice. He has performed a number of operatic roles including Diego Rivera in Frida by Robert Xavier Rodriguez, Sam in Leonard Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti, and Le Roi in Massenet’s Cendrillon, for Opera Steamboat, Westminster Choir College, and the Savannah Voice Festival. Other roles include Sander from Zémire et Azor by André Ernest Modeste Grétry, The Second Armored Man from Die Zauberflöte by Mozart, and Thierry and the Jailor in Dialogue de la Carmélites by Francis Poulenc.
Bryan has also performed with Indiana University Opera Theatre in their 2021 production of Xerxes by Handel in the role of Elviro and the Vater in their 2022 production of Humperdick’s Hänsel und Gretel. While in Indiana he also premiered the role of Pwyll in Leigha Amick’s one-act opera Rhiannon’s Condemnation.
Bryan was a studio artist with Teatro Nuovo Covering the title role and Don Asdrubale for their Crispino e la Comare production by the Ricci Brothers. He was also a member of the choruses for the same production and their production of Poliuto by Gaetano Donizetti.
Bryan made his international debut in Greece performing with The Camerata Bardi Vocal Academy in Mozart’s Don Giovanni as Masetto and covering the title role. He will also join the Camerata Bardi this season for their Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore production as Belcore.
Recently Bryan completed a production of Bizet’s Carmen with Boheme Opera in New Jersey. He was a chorister and covered the role of Escamillo during the production. He has also participated in the touring company New Jersey Lyric Opera in their productions of Puccini’s Tosca as the Sacristan and Verdi’s Rigoletto as Ceprano.
Not limiting himself to opera, Bryan has performed in The Lindsey Christiansen Annual Art Song Festival, The Westminster Opera Workshop, with Westminster Symphonic Choir, Columbus Indiana Philharmonic Chorus, Bloomington Chamber Singers, and is a new member of The Philadelphia Symphonic Choir.
Bryan was also an Encouragement Award recipient for the St. Louis District of the Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition during the 2022-2023 season. He has performed in masterclasses with Metropolitan Opera baritone Sherrill Milnes, and mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves.
In 2020, Bryan received his Bachelor of Music degree from Westminster Choir College studying with soprano Sharon Sweet. He has also coached with baritone Sherrill Milnes, soprano Nova Thomas, and pianists Dr. J.J Penna, Joan Dornemann, Susan Ashbaker, and Akiko Hosaki.
Bryan finished his degree at Indiana University’s prestigious Jacobs School of Music for his Master of Music in Voice Performance where he studied with bass Peter Volpe and coached regularly with Gary Arvin.
