Mikayla Farmer is a well-versed performer, holding a Bachelors degree in Music Education from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and is currently completing a Masters degree in flute performance at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Mikayla has performed in Colorado, Illinois, Ohio, NYC, Virginia, and has performances arranged in Quito, Ecuador and Ede, Netherlands. While she emphasizes her ability in contemporary music and low flutes, Mikayla finds enjoyment in performing all areas of music. During her time at BGSU, she held the position of principal flute of the BGSU Wind Symphony, the top wind ensemble at the university. At UMass-Amherst, Mikayla holds a top chair within the Wind Ensemble, again, the top ensemble at the university.
When not performing, Mikayla finds enjoyment in teaching flute students of all ages. She especially strives to help musicians find their own voice within their playing while also finding mastery in technique and developing a strong base in all genres of music. Her students have placed in the top portions of their sections in their school bands, have made high chairs in honor bands, and have been highly successful at Solo and Ensemble events. If unable to be with her flutes, Mikayla enjoys reading a good book, tending to her flowers, and learning more about the world around her.
